Almost as if the Gradius creators had made a tribute to their own game and decided to make it better in some ways, as the power up collection system adds a whole new dimension to the gameplay. Perfect music on top of Perfect everything, now with selectable difficulty so anyone can enjoy.. Super Hydorah is a fantastic horizontal shoot 'em up with varied levels and weapons, a killer soundtrack and great graphics. As a fan of games like R-Type and Gradius / Parodius I'm very happy that this game exists and even more that the old freeware version got the "Super" treatment. While the game borrows many elements from classic titles, it feels fresh and unique. Unlike most other shooters of this kind, Super Hydorah supports analog controls. At first I wasn't a fan of this, but after a while I got used to it and even with maxed out speed upgrades you can still maneuver precisely. There are also secrets to find in each stage.Shoot 'em up veterans will have no problems blazing through the game and even a 1CC run is achievable for most players. That's not to say that the game is easy. The levels are challenging, but fair. Checkpoints within levels and a save system after each stage help newcomers. There are unlimited continues, but if you run out of lives you get send back to the start of the level. Some stages are pretty long and new players might have some trouble beating them. But with the right combination of weapons, sub weapons and bombs every stage and boss can be conquered.. The game runs way too fast as being unplayable on my 144 Hz monitor. The developer's idiotic "solution" is to run the game on a 60 Hz monitor. Apparently that bug was introduced 1 year ago and is still unfixed. Don't buy.. There's a reason we left Gradius behind. It's a really faithful remake and is beautiful and crisp and etc. But why did you have to remake a \u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665\u2665 game?
